Abstract
This study examines the relationship between husband's participation in child-rearing and women¡¯s intention to have an additional child. Here, the moderating effect of husband's child-rearing activities was analyzed on the women's social capital and intention to have additional children. To this end, survey data were collected, for which childbearing women of ages ranging from 19 to 45 in Jeollabuk-do responded to the survey. Hierarchical regression analysis was performed with 193 data among 401 collected data. The analysis results show that as social capital of women is increased, the intention of women to have additional children is also increased. At the same manner, the higher the husband's participation in child-rearing, the higher the intention of women to give birth. Furthermore, it was shown that women's intention to have additional children is strongly dependent on the degree of husband's participation in child-rearing. Based on the analysis results, policy and practical recommendations were made on the creation of an environment suitable for childbirth and child-rearing. This study is meaningful in that it examines the factors at the micro level and the middle level that affect the intention to have an additional child in the low birthrate and aging situation that our society is facing, and discusses alternatives to increase the intention.
